In September 2014, over 400,000 people marched in the streets of New York City, demanding that national and world leaders join us in taking action on the climate crisis. The People’s Climate March, the largest street protest on climate ever, had a huge impact on world leaders, but here at home U.S leaders are not yet acting with urgency.  And we are running out of time.

At the end of 2015, nations will meet again to negotiate UN climate agreements in Paris that commit all countries to address climate change. What comes out of Paris will not mark the end of our efforts but could be an important step in the global process of confronting climate change.

Communities on the front-lines of the floods, the storms and droughts are both leading this movement and cultivating real solutions to climate change, and supporting their economic priorities are key to addressing the climate crisis.  Working together with workers and their unions, faith communities, youth and students, Indigenous peoples and others, our communities, our nation can transition to a clean energy economy that is fair for workers and improves all of our lives.  We can  – we must – reduce pollution, end poverty, and turn to community-led solutions all at the same time.
