Hi Friendly Followers,
Lots of our local favorite musicians will be here. Please come support the music and the dancing, and surround yourself in the natural beauty of Cedarmere. Hope to see you there! -Bhavani
Live music, contemporary dance, spoken word, sculpture and art installations will all converge at the outdoor multidisciplinary 4th Annual Summer Celebration of the Arts on the gorgeous historic grounds and landscape of Cedarmere Estate, located at 225 Bryant Avenue in Roslyn Harbor, on
Saturday, June 7th. Synergy Dance Collective NY and Friends of Cedarmere present CLIMATE OF HOPE with performances and exhibitions by NYC metro area based professional musicians, contemporary dancers and spoken word, visual and nature-inspired performance artists. Experience works by Cathy Henderson of Antigone Rising, MacArthur “genius” Award winning author/eco-activist Dr. Carl Safina, composers Arta Jēkobsone and Edgar Paterson Mills, percussionist/environmental educator Steve Finkelstein, artistic director/choreographer Nancy Brier, arranger/musical director Douglas Baldwin, sculptor John Cino, poets from The Scene and The Firefly Artists.
Beginning at 3:30pm, bring a picnic or visit the food truck, wander around the gardens and trails, enjoy the art installation and acoustic music in the newly renovated water mill and an interactive spoken word experience by the pond. At 5:15pm, converge in The Sunken Garden (chairs provided) and gaze at the sun setting over Hempstead Harbor as you immerse yourself in contemporary dance, live music, spoken word and nature-inspired presentations, all culminating in an interactive dance jam.
The talented and eclectic group of visual and performing artists hail from throughout the U.S. and around the world. Our musicians have worked with iconic artists such as The Rolling Stones, Sting, Santana, Mariah Carey, Ray Charles, Paul Winter, The Coasters and Bruce Springsteen, to only name a few.
William Cullen Bryant was the editor of the New York Evening Post, a civic activist who advocated for the rights of slaves, women, children, laborers and against deforestation. Considered America’s first great poet, he was a contemporary of and inspiration to Walt Whitman. Bryant helped promote
the establishment of the NY Public Library, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, and even the election of Abraham Lincoln. At this time, one of the most challenging periods in American history, Bryant’s former home, Cedarmere Estate, is a beautiful and appropriate setting for celebrating the arrival of the summer season and for the rights of all people and the natural world.
