Eating Green with Bhavani: Digging Up Dahlia’s for Next Year’s Planting! In Solidarity with Our Neighbors, Keeping the Vigil Alive!

Digging Up Dahlia’s and Storing them for Next Year!

This was my first year planting Dahlia’s. I had always shied away from planting anything that needed to be dug up in the Fall, only to be planted again in the Spring. It was one extra step that I wanted to avoid. Well, I must admit I am a convert! The flowers that graced our property this year were exquisite, and I want them to return! So I dug them up and will plant them again in the Spring!  I’m storing them in wood shavings and will separate them in the early Spring. Each Dahlia plant has multiplied, and I’m told I will be able to get about 4 plants from each bunch! It’s magic!

In Solidarity with Our Neighbors, Keeping the Vigil Alive!

You want to keep the spirit of the “No Kings Day” alive, but don’t know how? Well I just discovered that many towns have been holding weekly vigils in support of our neighbors who are in fear of ICE and possible deportation. This past Thursday there was a vigil at Glen Street train station in Glen Cove with Assemblyman Chuck Lavine, and faith leaders from the local community, sharing messages of hope, support and love for our neighbors without legal status.  It was very emotional, and it felt good to be out there in the cold with other concerned citizens.

There are many organizations working together to keep people informed of ICE raids, as well as organizing volunteers to to shop or do errands for those in fear of going out. Below are some things you can do.
