Tell Your State Legislators to Ban Toxic PFAS!

Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) just approved its second “forever chemical” pesticide in the past 2 weeks! Isocycloseram can now be sprayed on various crops and landscapes, despite concerns about perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) being harmful, especially to children. The pesticide is moderately persistent and transforms into 40 highly persistent PFAS chemicals, with critics highlighting potential health risks to children and toxicity to bees. This decision contradicts the agenda of “Making America Healthy Again” and instead prioritizes corporate profits over human and environmental health.

Tell General Mills to Reject GMO Wheat!

Two companies were recently approved to introduce a new variety of GMO wheat to our food supply in the US. This GMO wheat, known as HB4, is engineered to soak up higher levels of toxic pesticides. If this crop enters our food system, it could greatly increase the amount of harmful chemicals Americans consume. Advocates warn that introducing HB4 wheat could open the door to more toxic herbicide use and further industrialize grain farming at the expense of public health and environmental safety.

Introducing a new crop that is will increase the chemical contamination in our food supply is ludicrous! The Organic Consumers Association is asking us to petition General Mills to reject this new wheat crop, as they are one of the leading wheat buyers. To keep GMO wheat out of our food supply, we need to put pressure on big companies like General Mills to reject HB4 wheat in their supply chains.

Tell Congress to Support Organic Farmers with a Strong Farm Bill and Reject The Better Food Disclosure Act!

Organic is a fast growing sector of the U.S. agriculture system, with enormous potential to address climate change, help family farms flourish, revive rural communities and protect public health. But for organic agriculture to meet its potential, policies are needed to improve organic integrity, make USDA programs work for organic farmers, and increase market access for domestic producers.

It is crucial for Congress to continue working towards a new Farm Bill (“Farm Bill 2.0”), and it is essential that they include provisions that support domestic organic production, protect farmers from fraud, and strengthen the organic safety net.

Large junk-food companies have created a front group called “Americans for Ingredient Transparency” (AFIT) to push Congress to protect the FDA’s “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) loophole, which allows lab-grown cells, GMOs, and synthetic chemicals into food without safety testing. Although AFIT has so far failed to convince lawmakers to block states from banning harmful additives, it is now advocating for its “Better Food Disclosure Act,” which would make the GRAS loophole permanent. In contrast, Rep. Frank Pallone’s Grocery Reform and Safety Act would require companies to submit safety data, close GRAS abuses, and force the FDA to review both new and existing ingredients to keep unsafe chemicals out of the food supply. Advocates urge Congress to pass Pallone’s bill and reject AFIT’s misleading proposal.
