A recent federal court decision overturned the Save the Hudson Act, a New York state law signed by Governor Hochul in 2023 that had blocked Holtec International, the company in charge of decommissioning the Indian Point Nuclear Plant, from discharging over one million gallons of radioactive wastewater into the Hudson River. This ruling is a major blow to environmental advocates and communities working to protect the river’s health, public trust, and the local economy. Holtec’s planned release of wastewater from the decommissioned Indian Point nuclear plant raises serious concerns about public health, ecological damage, and long-term impacts on the region. In response, New York Attorney General Letitia James has announced plans to appeal the court’s decision—a move environmental groups like Riverkeeper strongly support.
Riverkeeper is urging the public to continue applying pressure and to thank the Attorney General for defending the Hudson. They emphasize the importance of keeping the issue in the public eye and maintaining momentum.
Key concerns include:
-
The potential harm to public health and the river’s ecosystem.
-
Damage to local economies dependent on tourism and recreation.
-
Loss of public confidence in environmental protections.

Saturday, October 18th, Attend a No Kings Day of Action Protest!!
I have never felt so scared for the future of America and this planet, as I do today.
We
have a man sitting in the Whitehouse who is sending masked agents into our streets and terrorizing our communities. They are targeting immigrant families, profiling, arresting, and detaining people without warrants. They are rigging our elections with new maps to elect Republicans, they have cut research and science while raising prices for healthcare, and taken away women’s rights along with freedom of speech. They are totally destroying any environmental protections we have fought for for years, and attacking education, including the separation of church & state. Mass shootings at our schools and in our communities doesn’t seem to alarm him, nor does the political violence against Democrats or people who disagree with him. He is driving up the cost of living while handing out massive giveaways to corporations and billionaires. All this is going on while American families are struggling. We can’t put our heads in the sand! We need to rise up together and protest, before it’s too late!
On Saturday, October 18, communities across the nation will rise up to make our voices heard! We need President Trump and Congress to hear our cries, that this country is a Democracy, not an authoritarian regime that he gets to control. America belongs to us, to the People!! No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings.
