In The News: Trump Protects Fossil Fuel Companies and Attacks Renewable Wind Energy Projects; RFK Breaks Promise to Protect Citizens Harmed by Pesticides!

File:Make polluters pay (banner) NZ6 6599 (52850797738).jpgThe “Make Polluters Pay” Movement has been growing increasingly and the Trump Administration is beginning to fight back. In an attempt to get states to drop their polluter lawsuits, or stop them from suing in the first place, Trump has taken action by way of the Justice Department and began suing states like New York, Vermont, and California that pass laws or initiate lawsuits that hold energy companies liable for their climate impact. “New York has declared war on those responsible for supplying our nation with reliable and affordable energy,” lawyers for the Justice Department wrote. Additionally, Republicans are suggesting that federal funding be cut for states that engage in these lawsuits, and are trying to pass laws that protect energy companies from such litigation.

These big oil companies have known for too long the impact of their greed on our climate. Our states are becoming more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change every day and when disasters happen, the cost falls on the states. It is time for big oil to pay.

File:Middelgrunden offshore wind farm 03.jpgThe offshore wind industry is also under attack by the Trump administration. He has enlisted several agencies to draft plans to prevent the offshore wind industry from taking on new projects and even stopping ones that are already in motion.

Last week, Sean Duffy, the transportation secretary, canceled or withdrew $679 million in federal funding that was designed to support the offshore wind industry. Last month, Revolution Wind, a $4 billion wind farm off the coast of Rhode Island that was 80% complete, was ordered to stop construction, claiming it was a threat to national security.

RFK had warned that the cables used in offshore wind farms are emitting an electromagnetic field that can harm people and whales. This is laughable considering the environmental damage and pollution that is caused by using fossil fuel energy is seen time and time again. It is clear they are just pushing this agenda for profit and not for safety.

RFK Breaks Promise to Protect Citizens Harmed by Pesticides!

File:Caution Sign Pesticide Spraying.jpgWhile on the campaign trail, Trump and RFK both had strong stances against the dangers of the “poison” of pesticides and their impact on the health of children. They made promises to ban or restrict the use of these horrible chemicals and to protect everyone from them.

In their first MAHA report released in May, the administration made no such recommendations to eliminate and limit pesticide use. It seems that agriculture lobbyists and pesticide industry representatives pushed RFK and the MAHA Commission to back away from their aggressive, anti-pesticide rhetoric. They claim that the extensive pushback on pesticides could create fear amongst Americans towards our food system, and that this will lead to farmers going out of business.

In the past, RFK received approximately $2.4 million in referral fees from the lead law firm handling lawsuits on behalf of individuals who became ill after glyphosate exposure. It seems they are getting money from both sides! This corruption is outrageous.
