Take Action: Stop National Grid from Building a Pipeline in Brooklyn! Join the Efforts to Erase Racism from Our Country!

I just don’t understand? How is it, that National Grid, the corporate utility who was reprimanded and fined this past autumn by Governor Cuomo for holding gas customers hostage by withholding gas in order to get a state permit to build the controversial Williams NESE Pipeline, is now building a massive 30” transmission pipeline across Brooklyn to support gas coming in from Williams NESE Pipeline that has been twice denied by New York State for threats to our water.

Neighboring residents and elected officials are demanding to know why they were never told about this construction? Why is it OK for National Grid to use our rate-payer dollars to invest in more fossil fuels when we should be investing in infrastructure for renewables, and building for efficiency to abide by NYC and NYS Climate Laws?

National Grid is currently asking for $185 million of our rate-payer dollars to build another phase of this unnecessary, potentially dangerous, pipeline. We need to stop their fossil fuel expansion by urging Governor Cuomo to reject National Grid’s request.

PLEASE Call Governor Cuomo Today at 877-235-6537 and every day this week.

Tuesday this week, in observance of the fourth annual National Day of Racial Healing (#HOWWEHEAL), I joined Erase Racism for a discussion on how we end institutionalized racism in our communities.

The issue of fair housing, segregation, bad school districts, and access to healthy food, will not get better until we start having honest discussions about the situation, raise awareness, deepen relationships, and build trust with each other, in order to create a more just and equitable world.

Erase Racism has started the conversation here on Long Island, trying to find solutions, strengthen alliances, and talk with others about implementing specific changes in our communities. I’m sure there are similar organizations around the country, working to create a more equitable community. Uprooting structural racism is hard. That’s why it’s so important to get everyone involved. There is power in the people, and we need all voices on board to create real change!
