The US Department of Agriculture is proposing a a roll back of biotechnology rules, allowing biotech companies to police themselves. The new rule, ironically called by the acronym “SECURE”, would exempt many GMO organisms from regulation. As you know, our GMO regulations are already very weak, so this is a feather in the hat of the biotech companies!Climate & Community Protection Act in NY – NY state is trying to pass one of the most comprehensive climate protection bills in the country, asking to eliminate carbon-emission transportation by 2050. It requires a 50 percent reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions by 2030, and sets a timeline for achieving 100 percent renewable energy economy-wide by 2050. Senators, Chuck Schumer, Kristen Gillebrand, and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez are all backing it, but Governor Cuomo is resistant. He is trying to push a similar bill of his own, called the Climate Protection Act, however he dropped the community aspect of the bill, the part that invests 40% of clean energy funds into disadvantaged communities.
