Vegetarian Fare in the Emerald Isle; Monsanto’s Cancerous Truth Revealed; Just Say No To GMO’S, Always!

Saint Patrick’s Day Celebrations are Now Greener Than Ever!

In addition to Ireland’s strikingly verdant countryside, the color green has been closely linked to the Emerald Isle for years, undoubtedly due to political reasons as well as for (what I find most exciting…) it’s food!!

Your typical household might have been busy last week breaking out the food dye to turn just about anything and everything green for the holiday celebrations. Meanwhile some chefs chose to revive older traditions, including foraging for seaweed (which is noted to have happened during the years of the famine) and to adapt old favorites for making alternative (more plant-based) recipes that everyone can enjoy!

Considering that a meat-centric diet is no longer considered humane, healthy and sustainable by the standards of our current industrialized food system, I encourage you to try any of these ‘greener’ alternatives… Maybe you, your friends and family will be inclined to explore some more ‘greener’ traditions for next year. I had fun making gluten-free pizza (what goes better with beer than that??) for our employees at Jaroff Design, which I am told was the best they’ve had yet!

Monsanto’s Cancerous Truth Finally (Again!) in the NY Times

“The reputation of Roundup, whose active ingredient is the world’s most widely used weed killer, took a hit on Tuesday when a federal court unsealed documents raising questions about its safety and the research practices of its manufacturer, the chemical giant Monsanto.” – The NY Times

Once again, profit and greed Trumps the health of people and our environment!

Just Say NO to GMOs, Now and Forever

According to Civil Eats, pesticide manufacturers have long maintained that their products are essential to feeding the world. But a new report by United Nations human rights experts challenges this assumption, arguing that the opposite is true: “Reliance on hazardous pesticides is a short-term solution that undermines the right to adequate food and health for present and future generations.” So….. what are we waiting for?? Get these pesticides and herbicides out of our food!
