The Countdown Has Begun! iEat Green’s Community Thanksgiving Feast for the Homeless is Around the Corner! My Guest this Week is Kathy Soll, Founder and Executive Director of ‘Teens for Food Justice’

Hi Everyone,

Once again, I am blown away by the coming together of community support to pull off this huge event! As of last count, I have 116 people signed up to participate! Some of the shifts are img_0078-1completely full, but we still need volunteers for Sunday evening and all shifts on Monday! In addition to preparing a full Thanksgiving meal, we collect winter clothing, coats, boots,  coatsblankets, sleeping bags, backpacks and bags, towels and toiletries. We do this again for Christmas, so keep the collections coming in! Just a heads up, for Christmas we also collect beautiful, second hand jewelry, as gifts for older girls, so start cleaning out your jewelry boxes now! It is a great way to get rid of all those earrings and necklaces that you don’t thanksgiving-linewear anymore. Just polish them up and put them in a bag or box (we have extra boxes!) The Christmas Celebration is on Tuesday, December 20th, with prep on the 18th and 19th. I’ll work on those details, once I get through Thanksgiving! But if you like to sing, please ‘save the date’ because we’ll need Carolers!

For those of you who are not familiar with what I do, every year, iEat Green partners with the River Fund-NY, river-fundto create a Thanksgiving Feast and Christmas Celebration for the hungry people living in and around Rufus King Park in Jamaica, Queens. If you would like to make a tax free donation to the River Fund-NY, to help finance the event, checks can be sent to; The River Fund-NY, 89-11 Lefferts Blvd, Richmond Hill NY 11418

I thank you all in advance for your help!

My guest this week on the Progressive Radio Network is Kathy Soll, the Founder and Executive Director of Teens for Food Justice. Kathy believes that all New Yorkers should be committed to ending hunger, food insecurity and poor nutrition, in one of the world’s greatest cities and that connecting youth to this mission and to each other, is a critical part of katherine-soll-headshot-1achieving that goal. Teens for Food Justice was built on the concept that hands-on volunteering and helping others, builds character and creates a unique level-playing field where people of all backgrounds can contribute equally through hard work and commitment, which is something hard to find in an increasingly polarized, stratified world. Kathy also believes that service is a powerful tool for tapping young people’s talents, resources, and abilities, helping them flourish and work productively with others. I must say I have seen this  work first hand! Over the many years I have been volunteering, I have had young people by my side, and I know the impact that community service has on them! Please join me on Thursday at 10am, to learn more about Kathy Soll and this wonderful organization.
