Let’s Get Organic Ag Research Funded in the 2018 Farm Bill: Sign Your Name HERE

Although the demand for Organic agricultural products has increased, our domestic production of them has not. According to the Organic Seed Alliance (OSA) and other sources, this is the result of a lack of adequate research investments that ultimately support organic farmers.

In 2015, reports showed that the government support for sustainable farming and development projects which emphasized agroecological research or implementation were “rare”.  The OSA says that research has been rather stagnant since 2010. UCSMinigraphic_EMBARGOED

Yet, with some hope, earlier this year, representatives Chellie Pingree (D-ME), Dan Newhouse (R-WA), and Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) introduced The Organic Agriculture Research Act. Their proposed bill would increase annual funding for the Organic Research and Extension Initiative (OREI), which is the USDA’s flagship organic research program, from $20 million to $50 million.

OREI applies funding towards research projects that “help organic farmers improve their production practices and respond to the needs of the people they feed.” According to the Organic Seed Alliance, there have been enormous returns on OREI investments in the context of seed; including new plant varieties that perform especially well in organic systems, some described here.

Net neutrality is not dead: Sign the Petition Below

“On December 14, the Federal Communications Commission repealed Net Neutrality, handing control of the internet to Big Telecom. The repeal of Net Neutrality gives monopolistic internet providers like Verizon, Comcast, and AT&T the power to block, censor, and slow down your favorite sites on the web.” – Moveon.OrgImage result for net neutrality

But Congress has the power to override the FCC. Will you sign and share this petition asking your members of Congress to use their Congressional Review Act powers to restore Net Neutrality?
