Take Action: Tell the President to Prosecute ExxonMobil; Ban Fracking on Public Lands; Pass the Wildfire Disaster Funding Act

Tell the President to Prosecute ExxonMobil

prosecute_exxon_180A game-changing investigation by InsideClimate News has revealed that Exxon’s own research as far back as 1978 confirmed the role of fossil fuels in climate change. This is a major revelation in light of what is obvious about Exxon: The company later spent two decades and millions of dollars defrauding the public about climate science, in an effort to slow action against climate change. We can’t get those years back. But there is precedent for holding ExxonMobil accountable: The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), the same law that played a crucial role in taking down the tobacco companies’ misinformation campaign. Tell President Obama and the Department of Justice: Prosecute ExxonMobil.

Ban Fracking on Public LandsRMNP - Big Meadows - home

Fracking has already caused serious damage to our public lands and precious climate. By the end of 2014, oil and gas companies had leases on over 34 million acres of public land, and over 200 million more acres are currently being targeted for drilling – even areas that surround America’s most precious National Parks and monuments. No amount of regulation will protect us from the impacts of fracking. The only way to protect the health of our communities, the integrity of our land and the future of our planet from the risks of fracking is to ban it altogether. Sign the petition to ask your members of Congress to support and co-sponsor the bill to ban fracking on public lands.

Pass the Wildfire Disaster Funding Act

this-is-disaster-180The rainforest of Washington’s Olympic peninsula, one of the wettest places on the continent; nearly 600 homes and 40,000 acres in Northern California were destroyed by wildfires in a matter of hours. In order to compensate for inadequate wildfire funding levels provided by Congress, federal agencies have been forced to divert $700 million from forest restoration and management funds — efforts which would help prevent wildfires to begin with! Tell Congress: Pass the Wildfire Disaster Funding Act… and repeal fossil fuel subsidies to pay for it.
