Take Action: Tell The EPA Not to Gamble with Natural Gas, Stop Shell?s Dangerous Offshore Drilling Exploration in the Arctic, Tell Costco to Stop Selling Factory Farm Eggs

Tell The EPA Not to Gamble with Natural Gassolar at apple

Right now, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is finalizing limits on global warming emissions from power plants, the largest source of these emissions in the United States. The EPA’s Clean Power Plan is our best opportunity to curb the growing consequences of climate change and accelerate the growth of clean energy?but it’s not strong enough.

The draft plan relies heavily on a switch from coal to natural gas and underestimates the power of renewable energy, such as wind and solar, to help cut power plant carbon emissions. Natural gas is still a fossil fuel and dramatically expanding its use poses risks to the climate and our economy. A smarter path forward is to take greater advantage of cost-effective renewable energy.

The EPA needs to hear from you today, especially in the face of fossil fuel interests who are working to weaken the plan. We can and must prioritize renewable energy over natural gas as we transition to low carbon electricity system.

Stop Shell?s Dangerous Offshore Drilling Exploration in the Arctic

Royal Dutch Shell?s efforts to drill in the U.S. Arctic have been plagued by mistakes and problems. Yet?after years of failure, Shell recently requested that the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement?(BSEE) retroactively suspend its leases.

If BSEE grants the request, the deadline for Shell?s leases would be extended by five years ? giving Shell?the opportunity to prolong the Arctic?s exposure to drilling danger for free.

Shell is the only oil company still actively exploring drilling in the U.S. Arctic Ocean. If BSEE denies?Shell?s request for an extension, it will deal a major blow to Shell?s efforts. Click here to sign the petition.

Tell Costco to Stop Selling Factory Farm Eggs

vcJBztqOHionJrt-800x450-noPadThe egg industry forces birds on factory farms to spend their entire lives cramped in cruel, filthy, and unsustainable battery cages. There are better ways to raise birds, and that’s why California passed two groundbreaking animal protection laws, Prop 2 and AB1437, that together require all shell eggs sold in the state?to be?produced by farm animals that have adequate space for natural behaviors by January 2015.

Unfortunately,?a few?retailers are ignoring the intention of these animal cruelty laws by?planning to sell eggs from hens?trapped in modified cages. They have had six years to make adjustments to follow the law, but they feel there is a loophole that allows birds to remain confined in warehouses of tiny, filthy cages stacked upon each other. We can show Costco that consumers demand trustworthy, ethical business practices from this retail giant.
