Take Action: Save Our National Forests From Logging Companies; Stop the Trans Pacific Partnership Once and For All; Support the Food Recovery Act

Save Our National Forests From Logging Companies

800px-OrmanRepublican Rep. Greg Walden has introduced a bill that would dispose of thousands of acres of national forest land in Oregon’s Klamath River Basin, which is home to both Klamath National Forest and Fremont-Winema National Forest. This bill will give logging companies access to do whatever they want in these precious forests, including raping the land of it’s natural resources. If Walden’s bill succeeds, the impact on these forests would be felt for generations, restricting access to these shared public lands and allowing unsustainable practices that would destroy habitats and fisheries, and degrade water quality. Stop the Trans Pacific Partnership Once and For AllStop_TPP_Capitol_Hill_CC_img-636x310

The Trans Pacific Partnership is an international trade deal that if passed, would be great for corporations, and bad for the American people. If Congress ratifies this agreement more, American jobs would be offshored. Internet freedom would be a joke. Developing countries would lose access to lifesaving medicines. Unsafe foods and products could pour into our country while we’re powerless to stop them. The deal includes countries notorious for severe violations of human rights, but the term “human rights” does not appear in the 5,600 pages of the TPP. And, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Please sign the petition here to stop the TPP in its tracks.

Support the Food Recovery Act

Fruits_veggiesEvery year, roughly 133 billion pounds of food are wasted by stores, restaurants, and homes in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Furthermore, one in seven Americans is food insecure. U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree wants to start the Food Recovery Act which would, if signed into law, incentivize farmers to donate fruits and vegetables (that cannot be sold in supermarkets) to food donation centers through tax breaks and educate the public to help people better understand sell-by labels and other expiration dates. Through four key areas—at the consumer level, on farms, in restaurants, and in schools and institutions—the bill would work to improve incentives for donation through Good Samaritan tax breaks, improve education on food waste through ad campaigns, and reform procurement policies. Sign the petition to help this bill get passed.
