Take Action: Americans Deserve to Know Where Their Meat Comes From; Stop Bottled Water Companies From Polluting our National Parks; Stop Monsanto’s Dream Bill in The Senate

Americans Deserve to Know Where Their Meat Comes From

2015_06_SafeFoodNow_180x180Our country, along with many other countries across the globe want to take away consumers’ right to know where their meat comes from. The House recently decided they want to take away our “country of origin labels” or COOL. The reasoning for taking them away is because they are “too burdensome” and “unfair” to these meat companies. What about fairness to the people who eat these products? The laws governing country of origin labels require companies to list where food was raised, processed, and packaged. That’s why if COOL requirements were fully repealed, the outcome would be a huge victory for the meat processing industry. Sign the petition now to tell the House that you want to know where your meat comes from.

Stop Bottled Water Companies From Polluting our National ParksUnacceptable_180

After intense pressure and lobbying from giant water bottling companies like Coca-Cola and Nestle, Republicans in Congress slipped in a last minute amendment into its parks funding bill that prohibits national parks from banning disposable bottled water. Today, Americans discard over 50 billion plastic water bottles per year, which consumes 20 billion barrels of oil and releases 25 million tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The National Park Service estimated that reducing bottled water could eliminate 6,000 tons of carbon emissions and 8 million kilowatt hours of electricity every year. These are huge numbers. We need to stop Congress from letting these bottled water companies pollute the planet, sign the petition now.

Stop Monsanto’s Dream Bill in The Senate

CNV_VERT-MonsantoDreamBill-C1Monsanto’s Dream Bill (H.R. 1599) would prohibit any state efforts to require labeling of GMO’s — and it already passed in the House of Representatives. We have to stop this bill in the Senate! The Grocery Manufacturers Association, an industry group that represents Monsanto, Nestlé, Dow and Pepsi, is pushing this bill because it would let them continue to keep quiet about their production and use of GMO foods. The bill passed the House in July, so it’s essential that we stop it in the Senate. We need to make sure our Senators hear from their actual constituents, since they’re already hearing from the industry lobbyists. It’s our right to know what is in our food, and corporations should not be allowed to keep us in the dark. Sign the petition now!
