Stop the Filthy Food Act

“Dirty food, dirty air, dirty water—that’s what we’ll get if we don’t stop Congress from passing the Big Business Protection Act.  (Okay, the real, but deceptive, name of the bill is the Regulatory Accountability Act.)  The bill would trump other laws to put business interests before the public interest at every turn. It would add burdensome legal steps to block the path of rules designed to safeguard Americans, and force government agencies to focus on the cheapest, rather than the best options when it comes to health and safety.” – Center for Science in the Public Interest

Urge Supermarkets to Remove Junk Food from Checkout

“It’s no accident that nearly all supermarkets in America sell candy and soda in their checkout lanes. Placing junk food near the cash register is a marketing strategy that supermarkets use to boost sales. Not only do supermarkets benefit from the sale of junk food at checkout, but they’ve found a way to make even more money by “renting” out space in their checkout aisles to food companies that pay to have their products there.

Supermarkets should support shoppers’ health, not undermine it. Join us in asking Walmart, Kroger, and other major supermarkets to do right by their customers and remove junk food from checkout. ” – Center for Science in the Public Interest

Center for Science in the Public Interest issues action alert on RAA
Last Wednesday, Senators Portman and Heitkamp introduced the Regulatory Accountability Act (RAA). The RAA would obstruct agencies’ ability to adopt health and safety protections, including any future initiatives around added sugars, food labeling, and sodium reduction. The RAA has already passed in the House and is expected to be considered in the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee in May.

Stop Trump from trying to dismantle everything we have accomplished together.

  •  We won calorie labeling at chain restaurants, supermarkets, movie theaters, and other food service venues—a public health victory scheduled to go into full effect this Friday. The Trump Administration has made moves to block it.

  •  We got junk food out of schools and improved the quality of school meals. Today Trump’s Secretary of Agriculture slammed on the brakes.

  •  We helped shape important updates to Nutrition Facts labels—adding a new line for added sugars.  And we’ve learned that the Trump’s FDA is prepared to do the food industry’s bidding and put the new labels on hold until at least 2021! And who knows what they might try to do to the updates given a delay!

This is urgent: Now is the time to chip in $10, $20, or even $50 to stand up to Donald Trump.

Trump is doing whatever Big Food asks and is taking a wrecking ball to some of the most important nutrition and food safety advances of the last decade. But we’re going to stop him.

We’re retooling CSPI to meet this unprecedented challenge. We’re beefing up our legal team, expanding our grassroots capacity in key states, and shifting resources to save school meals, menu labeling, and Nutrition Facts labels.

Ban Chemicals in Our Food

There are so many chemicals and foods banned in other countries which we still use in the United States. Join the fight and urge our law and policymakers to change this!
