“In a stunning blow to science, democracy and human health, the Trump administration has overruled the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) own career scientists and stubbornly refused to ban the toxic pesticide chlorpyrifos, which has been linked to dangerous impacts on young children’s brains — including higher rates of ADHD and autism and most shockingly lowered IQs for children whose mothers are exposed to the pesticide during pregnancy. The science behind chlorpyrifos damage to young children’s brains is so conclusive that career EPA scientists actually went so far as recommending the pesticide be completely BANNED from agricultural use, but Trump’s EPA administrator Scott Pruitt personally reversed this decision.”

According to Associated Press, Pruitt’s decision came after a brief meeting with the CEO of Dow Chemical and an intense push by agribusiness lobbyists who advised Trump’s political appointees at the EPA to ignore the multiple health studies that show the pesticide chlorpyrifos can harm children’s brains.

Now a handful of Senators has just introduced a bill that would ban this toxic pesticide for good called the “Protect Children, Farmers and Farmworkers from Nerve Agent Pesticides Act of 2017″

Join the Investigation of the Bayer-Monsanto Merger

The deal, which the two companies announced in September, would combine the German pharmaceutical and chemical group (Bayer) with the US seed giant (Monsanto) — a move they say would boost agriculture research and innovation.
