My Interview with Tristram Stuart, Founder of Feedback and Feeding the 5000!

Hi All,

This morning I had the pleasure of interviewing Tristram Stuart, a man who has brought change in how we view and deal with “food waste.” He first discovered that we had a food waste problem as a teenager, while collecting discarded food for his pigs. He soon realized that the food he was collecting for his pigs, was perfectly good food that was going to a landfill, just because it was less than perfect, or didn’t meet the standards that the supermarket wanted. As Tristram Tristram Stuartresearched the food waste issue more, he was appalled at the facts he was finding, and in 2006 wrote his first book, The Bloodless Revolution: A Cultural History of Vegetarianism from 1600 to Modern Times, followed by his second book in 2009, Waste: Uncovering the Global Food Scandal. In 2009, Tristram founded the organization Feedback, to raise awareness about the global food waste issue, and to do something about it. His first event in 2009, Feeding the 5000, was such a success, that the event has been replicated in many countries, over many years. This past Spring, there was a “Feeding the 5000” event in New York City and in Washington DC, where over 10,000 meals were prepared by volunteers and chefs, all created from food that would otherwise have been thrown away. To hear more about the amazing work that Tristram is doing, listen to our interview here, and check out his website at Feedback.
