Interview Live from Food Tank Summit

Hi All,

Today I had the pleasure of recording my show live from the 1st Annual Food Tank Summit at George Washington University. The conference is great, and it has been a wonderful opportunity to network and meet people who are really making a difference in all aspects of Food, whether it is food recovery, food procurement, food service employees, food justice, food policy or the story of food, it is inspiring. I had some presenters stop by for the second half of the show to share some of the work they are doing

I met with Vicki Robin, author of Your Money or Your Life, and Blessing the Hands that Feed Us. Her work is now challenging people to take on the 10 Mile Local Food Diet, and experience the thought and integrity involved in taking that on, and re-connecting with the art of cooking and bringing people together.

Next I met Ben Simon, the young man from the University of Maryland, who in 2011, started the Food Recovery Network, after being outraged at all the wasted food on campus. The program is now in 112 Universities and has donated over 450,000 meals across the United States!

My last guest was Vanessa Ferragut, who founded Greenease, one of the graduating businesses from Food-X’s first round of food accelerator companies. Her company just launched a new app in both Washington DC and New York, that helps consumers pick a restaurant to eat at, based on the responsible sourcing of the food they serve. As she said, we all vote with the dollars we spend, and supporting restaurants trying to do the right thing, is essential to driving the market in the direction we want to go.
