France Bans the World’s Leading Herbicide From Garden Stores

477212342Ever since the World Health Organization deemed Monsanto’s RoundUp “probably carcinogenic for humans,” France has been second guessing their choice to keep it on the shelves. Due to this news, Ségolène Royal, the environment and energy minister, recently announced a plan to ban Roundup from all garden store shelves in the country. Glyphosate – which is the ingredient in RoundUp that has been labeled harmful to humans – now shows up in everything from honey to soy sauce and flour, said Paul Towers, spokesperson for the Pesticide Action Network North America. I’m guessing this is due to bees picking it up on their bodies while roaming from flower to flower. I hope this can be a great start to more countries banning this harmful gardening product.

Masai Women Are Leading a Solar Revolution with Donkeysdonkeywithsolarpanel2

In Magadi, Kenya, electricity is very hard to come by. At night they get by with lighting fires or burning expensive kerosine for their children to do their homework. Energy poverty is a major problem in this region; Magadi is so far off the country’s power grid that people have to walk almost 10 miles to charge their phones at a station that’s open only one day a week.

But these women are changing the game with their donkeys. By placing solar panels on their donkeys, they’re transforming the lives of locals with light and power, thanks to a program launched by renewable energy developer Green Energy Africa. In addition, they are trained to install panels on individual homes, creating job opportunities. To date, 200 women are participating across five village groups; together, they’ve installed solar-powered units in more than 2,000 homes.

This horrifying video shows the public what the life of a chicken in a factory farm is really like. And it’s not pretty. Please take the time to watch this short video. Be aware this may be disturbing for some people. And next time you are buying chicken, remember that “cage-free” means nothing. The chickens must be organic and have access to roam outside.
