Fire At the Indian Point Nuclear Plant

SheenatIndianPoint-051015-LRae-450x300At the beginning of this month, there was a fire at the Indian Point power plant, causing a shut down of one of the plant?s two reactors. Governor Cuomo has been trying to shut down this plant for years, and finally has a chance to do so from this unfortunate circumstance.

Since the fire, the plant has been out of commission, but this is only a temporary stumble, they still plan to reopen the plant. Fortunately, you can have your voice heard at the meeting tomorrow at the Westchester Mariott in Tarrytown. Let’s not allow this hazardous plant to reopen and continue ravaging our environment and killing our fish. Click here?for more details on when and where the meeting will be held.

EPA Criticized for Wanting Public Opinion on New LegislationEPA1-master675-v2

What do you think about the EPA’s campaign to inform the public about water safety? Some say they have overstepped their bounds by tweeting ambiguous posts, and by connecting with grassroot organizations like the Sierra Club. Are their lobbying efforts illegal? The EPA doesn’t think so. ?We are well within our authority to educate the American people about the importance of what E.P.A. is doing to act on climate change and protect public health,? Mr. Reynolds said. ?There is a very clear line, and we never, ever cross it.?

But critics said environmental groups had inappropriately influenced the campaign ? just as environmentalists complained that the energy industry improperly drove policy during the George W. Bush administration. Is the EPA just leveling out the playing field? I think so. The Republicans have been preventing the EPA from doing their job, and I welcome the opportunity to speak out, and hold the EPA accountable for protecting our water supply!
