FDA Panel Backs Limits on Testosterone Drugs

An expert panel encourages the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to change labeling and impose stricter?limitations on the multibillion-dolloar testosterone drug industry. ?Since the early 2000s testosterone usage has quadrupled for men in their 40s, based upon marketing that suggest the drugs can help solve issues of low energy, low libido, and other ills, many of them related to aging. ?Looking for the fountain of?youth, many men are proscribed a regime of testosterone replacement therapy without their base level of testosterone?tested and without heed for risks, including increased occurrences of heart attacks and strokes. ?Meanwhile, the benefits of testosterone treatments for healthy, aging men, according to the FDA are unproven.

Artificial Sweeteners May Disrupt Body’s Blood Sugar Controls

Artificial-sweetener

We consume artificial sweeteners instead of sugar with the intent to prevent diabetes. ?New experiments show that those same sweeteners may disrupt our body’s ability to regulate our blood sugar, and thus, cause metabolic changes in our gut which can be a precursor to diabetes. ?Many conditions, including obesity and diabetes, are linked to disruptions of the microbiome which inhabits our gut. ?Mice who consumed artificial sweeteners developed glucose intolerance, becoming less able to process large amounts of sugar; as opposed to mice who consumed simple sugar water with no change. ?Another study of 381 non diabetic participants, a correlation developed between any reported use of artificial sweeteners and signs of glucose intolerance.

Gas Leaf Blowers Add to Carbon Emissions

Did you know that Gas Leaf Blowers account for up to 10%? of all carbon emissions in the US? I had no idea! I thought they were just annoying because of their noise and smell, but they are a real threat to our health and our environment. There are movements throughout the country to try to regulate them, and Huntington C.A.L.M. (Citizens Appeal for Leafblower Moderation) is our local organization. They educates citizens about the harm caused by the unregulated two stroke Gas Leaf Blower. If you live in Huntington, please sign their petition or find a similar organization in your area.
