Farmer Shows The Truth About Raising Chickens In America

Watch this short video on how chickens in factory farms are raised. This is only a tiny look into the world of CAFO’s, it is a dire situation and the world needs to know how their food is being treated.

New Vaccine Aims to Reduce Methane Gas Emissions in Cows

800px-Dairy_cowGlobally, the raising of livestock accounts for 18% of total methane emissions according to the United Nations. A new vaccine coming out by a few New Zealand scientists claims it can reduce methane emissions produced by cows by 25-30%. The vaccine is being developed by Dairy NZ, and is now in the animal testing phase. This seems to be an overly complicated “solution” to a problem that could be better solved in the more obvious way of having people cut down on their meat consumption. Not to mention what the side effects of this vaccine could potentially be for the cow and for the people consuming these products.

Roughly 8,000 seabirds, or murres, had been found dead off of the coast of Alaska. Heather Renner, a supervisory biologist at the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, said the Whittier die-off is part of a much larger event that started in August. Renner estimates that 100,000 common murres have died. The birds have died from starvation which is due to a lack of food off the coast. The food supply of the seabirds are sensitive to water temperatures, and if the waters are too hot, they don’t stick around. And there’s plenty of warm water off Alaska’s coast right now. Since 2013, an expanse of seawater that’s 2 to 7 degrees Fahrenheit above average has stretched from Asia to North America.
