iEat Green Interviews Kenny Friedman, Founder of Nourishing Long Island Food Buying Club

Hi All,

Now that Thanksgiving is over, I can take a moment to reflect on the enormous work of the River Fund NY Food Pantry, and all of the volunteers that helped me to create another wonderful feast for the less fortunate. It is truly a highlight of the year, bringing so many people together for such a worthy cause. Thank you again to everyone who helped!

Coming up next week on Thursday, the 11th, I am presenting a Cooking Demo at the Cold Spring Harbor Library called, “One Wok, Three Meals.” This is one of my favorite classes to teach, because it demonstrates how you can create 3 very different, international dishes, using basically the same ingredients, just by altering the herbs and spices you use. We will create a Japanese Stir Fry with Sesame Rice Noodles,? Mixed Vegetables in Coconut Curry, served with Saffron Rice, and Mediterranean Vegetables with Fire Roasted Tomatoes, Olives and Capers, served with Cous Cous. All of the dishes are vegan and gluten free (except for the cous cous), but I will show you how you can add different proteins to the dishes to accommodate your families preferences. The class is free, but you must register and pay a $5.00 material fee. Call the library at 631-692-6820 (x202)

There are also 3 great events coming up at the Cinema Arts Centre, that I want to highlight! The first one is this Thursday, December 4th, with a film called Triple Divide. It is a documentary film that explains both sides of the fracking issue, and should not be missed! The second event is next Tuesday, the 9th, where Slow Food North Shore will be celebrating Terra Madre Day with an evening event, Celebrating Mother Earth, where we will share photos from this years event, show a short video, and talk about protecting rare foods with the Ark of Taste project. The last event on Wednesday, Dec. 17th, which requires us to sell a minimum of 90 tickets in advance or else it will be cancelled, is a documentary film called Cowspiracy. This film is an expos? of the industrial meat farming business and reveals the absolutely devastating environmental impact large-scale factory farming has on our planet, while offering a path to global sustainability for a growing population. Please purchase your tickets today! Following all of these events, there will be a Q & A, and a reception for all attendees. I hope you can make it!
