iEat Green’s Interview with Dr. Robert Graham; An Integrative and Complimentary Doctor Who Believes in the Power of Food

Hi All,

This morning I had a wonderful interview with Dr. Robert Graham, about the type of medicine he practices. As a Board Certified Internal and Integrative Physician, Dr. Graham is trained in integrating complimentary and alternative forms of medicine to offer his patients the best of both worlds. Through his experience both in medicine and in life, Dr. Graham has come to value the power of the foods we eat, as the best medicine to prevent most of the chronic diseases plaguing our society today. He is using his experience to teach other doctors about the benefits of a plant based diet, both through a lecture series at the hospital, and through a hands on cooking program that he teaches at the Natural Gourmet Institute. His hope is that once the doctors know how to cook and eat well, they in turn can teach their patients. Dr. Graham also promotes doing yoga and meditation, as a way to deal with the stresses in our everyday lives. Trooftop gardenwo years ago, he started a rooftop garden at Lenox Hill Hospital, which now supplies food and herbs to the hospital cafeteria. Another benefit of the rooftop garden is that it offers a peaceful, meditative place for the employees, doctors, nurses and patients to go during the day, and has helped to build a sense of community within the hospital. His hope is to have a rooftop garden on every hospital, and to incorporate the food grown into the food that the patients eat. Wouldn’t that be a miracle!
