iEat Green’s First Honey Harvest of 2016; A Real Farm to Table Dinner in Vermont; iEat Green Interviews Tristram Stuart, Founder of Feedback, on The Progressive Radio Network!

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder, the LI Food Coalition‘s trip to the Rodale Institute is this Monday, and there is still space on the bus! Please join us and purchase your tickets today!

Also, there is limited space for my upcoming cooking classes, so if you are interested, please sign up! All of the classes are Vegan and Gluten Free. The first one, scheduled for July 26th, will be a Japanese inspired menu. The next one is a GardenMediterranean Menu on August 2nd, and the last one is a Thai Menu on August 16th. Come for one or all three!

Last weekend was our first honey harvest of the season! And what a harvest it wIMG_6687as! We IMG_6695collected approximately 130 lbs. of honey from two out of our three hives. Joe had help from two of my summer interns, and I was on bottle washing duty (not my favorite!) After collecting the frames, we needed to un-cap them. We used an electric heated knife to do that. Then we put each frame into the extractor, which needs to be cranked fast, in order to spin the honey out. Joe figured out a way to attach his drill to the extractor, so that the spinning was easy and fast! We filled 3 buckets with honey! IMG_6690 It was a sweet, full day!IMG_6688

This past weekend, we were in Vermont for a wedding of our dear friends son. In anticipation of the wedding, my friend planted enough salad greens to feed 50 people on Thursday, 70 people on Friday, and then 100 people on Saturday at the wedding. I was so impressed! We had many helpers in the kitchen, washing, spinning and chopping, so nothing seemed like a chore. It all happened seamlessly. It was a real “Farm to Table Weekend!” We brought up our tents, so all the meals before the actual wedding, didn’t have to happen in the wedding tent. The weather was not fully cooperating, but it didn’t matter! Neither the rain, nor cold, could keep our spirits down! It was a love fest!IMG_0595IMG_0609

In May, I volunteered for an event that took place in New York called, Feeding the 5000. The event was a project of Feedback, an organization whose mission is to raise awareness about Food Waste, and then to do something about it! Tristram Stuart is the Founder of Feedback, and I am very excited to have him on, as this weeks guest on the Progressive Radio Network, to talk to us about Feedback, and the Feeding the 5000 events.
