iEat Green’s Bhavani Jaroff and Tamar Haspel from the Washington Post, Share a Spirited Conversation on the Safety of GMO’s

Hi Everyone,

This morning, my guest on the Progressive Radio Network was Tamar Haspel, the award winning journalist who writes a monthly column for the Washington Post called Unearthed. Her writing focuses on food policy issues, such as GMO’s, biotech, pesticides, food additives, antibiotics, organics, nutrition and food policy. I did not realize until after I sent her the invitation, and started doing my research, that she sits on the side of the fence that is in support of GMO’s and the biotech industry. I decided to still go forward with the interview, noting that all information is helpful when debating an issue. However, I underestimated how strongly she would push her GMO safety agenda, and I found myself off guard, and a little flustered. Towards the end of the interview, I dropped the bomb, and brought up the fact the under the Freedom of Information Act, it has come out that Tamar has been paid thousands of dollars from Monsanto and the biotech industries to speak at their events and moderate their panels. Just as we need to follow the money in scientific research, one needs to question if a journalist can write an unbiased paper, if they are being paid by the company they are reporting about.  If you missed our spirited interview, you can listen to it below.
