iEat Green Welcomes in 2018! NOFA-NY’s Winter Conference is Around the Corner! Summer Raynes Oakes, Author of SugarDetoxMe Joins Bhavani on PRN

Hi Everyone,

I just returned from my ‘Big Chill Weekend’ in Vermont! Every year, for the past 35 years, I have been welcoming in the New Year with my dear friends who live in Vermont, and who open up their home to my family, to my siblings family’s, and our extended circle of friends. We have watched the circle grow, as we married, had children, our children married, and now our children are starting to have children. It is a beautiful scene, filled with many annual traditions, outdoor activities (although this weekend was too cold for me!!!) and lots of delicious communal meals. It is the circle of life and the perfect way for me to ring in the New Year! As we embrace ourselves for 2018, may we find the strength and courage to uphold our ideals, to resist anarchy, and to support those in our communities that are in need of help.

Every January, NOFA-NY, the Northeast Organic Farming Association’s New York Chapter, celebrates our organic community with their annual Winter Conference, at the Saratoga Hilton and City Center in Saratoga Springs, NY. This year, the conference will be held from Jan. 19th- 21st, with Healthy People, Healthy Planet being the theme. I have been invited to do a cooking demo on Friday afternoon, so I hope to see many of you there! Check out the website!  There are 12 different workshop tracks, including activities for children, so there is truly something for everyone. This year, they added a one day Wellness Fair, which will provide health screenings, massages, acupuncture, reiki and more! In the evenings, they have great entertainment, with films, music, a Friday night DJ, and Fern Bradley hosting the contra dance on Saturday night, not to mention all the delicious organic meals! It’s an event you don’t want to miss!!

Being it is the New Year, and many of us like to start the New Year with a healthy eating resolution, I thought inviting Summer Raynes Oakes on as my guest, to talk about her book, SUGARDETOXME, would be a good way to start! SUGARDETOXME: 100+ Recipes to Curb Cravings and Take Back Your Health is a wonderful book addressing our country’s addiction to sugar, and a pathway to eliminating sugar from your diet. Summer Rayne has developed a 10 Step Program to re-set your cravings and to simplify the cooking and shopping process with meal maps that combine ingredients and flavors to minimize time, waste and save money. I hope you can join us on Thursday for what promises to be a great program!

Remember, my show is recorded live, every Thursday, from 10-11 am, EST.  To tune in, navigate to PRN.fm and click the “Listen Live” button on the left. Also try downloading the PRN mobile app, and take the station with you wherever you go!
