iEat Green Uses Food as a Spiritual Path; Grace Gershuny, Author of “Organic Revolutionary” and An Organic Pioneer Will Join Bhavani on PRN

Hi All,

As I find myself sitting with my very dear friend nearing the end of life as we know it, I can’t help reflecting on the spiritual journey we have shared together. She is my spiritual sister. We have shared the ups and downs of our life cycles together, and this is no different, but it is. We are in the moment, because we have to be, and it is perfect. There is nowhere to go, and nothing that we need to do. The love we have for each other is present in the silence, and while she rests, I can transform that love into food for her and her family. I have found that cooking and feeding people I love, not only feeds them, but it feeds me too. I honestly feel like it is my life’s calling, my spiritual path, to feed people with food that is healthy and imbued with love, to help carry them through whatever life challenges they may be facing. It is food for the body, mind and spirit (with kindness to the earth in mind!) Check out this week’s recipe for the Raw Raspberry Cheesecake with Chocolate Drizzle! My friend said it was the best dessert she has ever eaten! That made me happy!

Please join me this week as I welcome Grace Gershuny onto my show. Grace is a widely known author, educator and organic consultant. Her new book, Organic Revolutionary: A Memoir of the Movement for Real Food, Planetary Healing, and Human Liberation, is taken right from her life experiences. In the 1990’s she served on the staff of USDA’s National Organic Program, where she helped write the regulations. She learned much of what she knows through her longtime involvement with the grassroots organic movement, where she organized conferences and educational events and developed an early organic certification program for the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA). A reformed market gardener, Grace still grows her own veggies and chicken in Barnet, Vermont. She currently teaches in the Green Mountain College online Masters in Sustainable Food Systems program and serves on the Board of the Institute for Social Ecology. She has a Masters in Extension Education from the University of Vermont, with a self-designed concentration in Ecological Agriculture.

Doing business as GAIA Services, Grace works as an independent organic inspector as well as consulting for private and non-profit clients on all aspects of organic certification, developing related standards and certification systems, and training programs.
