iEat Green Shares Interview with Tamara Wrenn and Kristin Effland from The Foundation for the Advancement of Midwifery

Hi All,

Yesterday I had a wonderful interview with 2 women who are working tirelessly to expand the coverage of midwifery  to more women, especially into communities of color, where birth outcomes for both the baby and mother are compromised.  Kristin Effland, is a graduate from the Master of Arts in Maternal-Child Health Systems program at Bastyr University and founder of a new website called, Equity in Midwife Education and Tamara Wrenn, is the Executive Director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Midwifery (FAM.)  The Foundation for the Advancement of Midwifery is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to increasing access to midwifery in North America through education, research and public policy. There is a lot of research that supports the need to expand the midwifery model of care in North America because it improves maternal and infant health outcomes, reduces unnecessary and costly medical interventions, and increases patient satisfaction. FAM receives its support from foundations and individuals who understand the need for maternity care reform for its high costs and poor outcomes for mothers and babies.

Check out this campaign video of “Everyone Deserves a Midwife” and consider donating to this very worthy cause! If you missed our interview, you can listen to it here!
