iEat Green Shares Interview with Sherry Torkos, Holistic Pharmacist and Author of “The Canadian Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine”

Hi All,

Yesterday I had a wonderful interview with Sherry Torkos about her work as a holistic pharmacist, and her desire to educate the public on histamine intolerance. We have all heard of dairy intolerance and gluten intolerance, but histamine intolerance is a new one, even to me! Histamine is a chemical in your immune system that acts as a neurotransmitter and communicates important messages from your body to your brain. As we get older, many people become deficient in the enzyme DAO (Diamine Oxidase) that breaks down histamine, causing many symptoms like headaches and migraines, anxiety, irregular menstrual cycles, Arrhythmia or accelerated heart rate, itchy tongue or runny nose when eating certain foods, difficulty falling asleep, vertigo, abdominal cramps, nausea, hives and more, making it very hard to diagnose. If you suspect you might have an intolerance to histamine, you can either go on an elimination diet and slowly re-introduce foods into your diet, or you can try taking a DAO enzyme supplement, (Sherry recommends Umbrellux) and see if that helps with your symptoms. To learn more about Histamine Intolerance, listen to our interview below, or reach out to Sherry through her website.
