iEat Green Shares Interview with Raquel Jacquez Sharp from The Sylvia Center and Katchkie Farm

Hi Everyone,

I just finished my interview with Raquel Jacquez Sharp, who is the Communications and Partnership Manager for The Sylvia Center in NYC and Katchkie Farm in the Hudson Valley. The Sylvia Center is a unique non-profit organization working with youth, teaching them about nutrition education and cooking skills. What makes their program so special, is that they actually train the teenagers who go through their training program, to become the new teams of teachers to work with the younger students, empowering them, and giving them ownership of the program. The Sylvia Center focuses on the students from the city, and partners with local urban farms and community based programs to give the students the experience of working in the garden, while teaching them knife skills, how to cook, and how to read nutritional labels.

Katchkie Farm is the farm in Kinderhook, NY, that helps support the Sylvia Center’s work, and primarily works with students in the surrounding Columbia County area. The farm has a CSA program (Community Supported Agriculture) and provides cooking classes and educational programing to the greater community. Coming up on July 14th, Katchkie Farm is hosting a Farm to Table Dinner Fund Raiser  to help support the work of The Sylvia Center and the Farm. If interested and for more info, click here!

If you missed the interview, don’t worry, you can listen to it here!
