iEat Green Shares Interview with Maryn McKenna, Author of the “Big Chicken”

Hi All,

My guest today was Maryn McKenna, author of the new book,  Big Chicken: The Incredible Story of How Antibiotics Created Modern Agriculture and Changed the Way the World Eats.  Maryn has been an investigative journalist for most of her career, and focuses on food issues, public health and global health. Lucky for us, she has written this complete exposé on the mis-use of antibiotics in industrial agriculture, especially when it comes to poultry. This practice puts us all at risk, because it promotes antibiotic resistance strains of bacteria. A few statistics that she shared during the interview were very alarming, and are cause of great concern. If you missed our interview, you can listen to it below, or get her book, Big Chicken: The Incredible Story of How Antibiotics Created Modern Agriculture and Changed the Way the World Eats, and read first hand about the dangers of antibiotic use in livestock.

Maryn is a Senior Fellow at the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism at Brandeis University.
