iEat Green Shares Interview with Dr. Charles Platkin, the Diet Detective and Director of the NYC Food Policy Center at Hunter

Hi All,

I had a wonderful interview this morning with Dr. Platkin about his path towards food policy and community health. After his father became ill with diabetes, he started looking closely at a long line of health issues within his family’s history, and realized he needed to make changes in his own personal life, or he would be platkin-at-gym1-266x300heading down the same path. Having started his career out as a lawyer, and finding it unfulfilling, he followed his passion and started looking into healthier life style choices, which led to his first book, Breaking the Pattern: The Five Principles You Need to Remodel Your Life. From there he went on to get his Masters and PhD in Public Health, and founded an organization called Integrated Wellness Solutions, which worked to develop corporate wellness initiatives using technology and algorithm based diet and fitness programs, to market health behavior change.

As one of the nations leading nutrition and public health advocates, Dr. Platkins’ syndicated health, nutrition and fitness column, the Diet Detective appears in more than 100 daily newspapers and media outlets. His website, DietDetective.com, offers more than 700 articles and interviews on nutrition, food, and fitness.

Dr. Platkin is a Distinguished Lecturer at Hunter College in New York City and the Director of the New York City Food Policy Center at Hunter College. The NYC Food Policy Center is working to develop innovative and evidence-based solutions to preventing diet-related diseases and promoting food security in New York and other cities.  The Center works with policy makers, community organizations, advocates and the public to create healthier, more sustainable food environments and to use food to promote community and economic development. Their monthly Breakfast Series is free and open to the public, and is a wonderful opportunity to get involved and meet some of the leaders creating change around food! If you missed our interview, you can listen to it below!
