iEat Green Joins the Fight to Oppose the Port Ambrose LNG Facility, While Supporting the Long Island-New York City Off Shore Wind Project; The Thanksgiving Coat Collection Continues; An Interview with Dana Gunders, Author of “Waste-Free Kitchen Handbook”

Hi Everyone,

On Monday, I joined fellow concerned citizens at a Public Hearing for the Port Ambrose Liquefied Natural Gas Facility, which has been proposed to be built 17 miles off of the coast of Long Beach. Not only is it in the same location as the proposed Long Island-New York City Wind Farm, but it would endanger our environment, peoples health, wildlife, fishing, and tourism and compromise our security. It would continue our cycle of creating more greenhouse gas emissions, and adding to climate change, as opposed to moving in the direction of renewable energy and reducing our global footprint. Governor Cuomo has made a commitment towards tackling climate change and allowing Liberty Natural Gas to move forwaPort Ambrose Hearingrd with the Port Ambrose project would be against his promise. Please help us hold Governor Cuomo to his word, by demanding that he veto the Port Ambrose project. You can call his office as often as possible at (518) 474-8390

I need your help! I need everyone to help me collect coats and winter clothing items, along with blankets and sleeping bags, for our neighbors who are in need.  For 21 years, I have been partnering with the River Fund NY, and their mobile food pantry, to bring a spectacular, homemade, Thanksgiving Feast, to the folks in and around Rufus King Park in Jamaica, Queens. As much as they love the food, they really need the coats to stay warm during the winter. Please reach out to your places of work, your schools, your churches and synagogues, and to your neighbors, to help me gather enough coats so that everyone can get one. We typically feed over 600 people in the park, with enough food left over to supply some local homeless shelters. There are many ways you can get involved. You can sign up to volunteer for the washing, prepping and cooking, you can donate a turkey (preferably cooked, but raw is OK too), you can donate money directly to the River Fund NY ( a 501-c3 org., mention Thanksgiving event) and you can help us collect coats, and other winter clothing items to distribute to those in need. This week on the Progressive Radio Network, I will be interviewing Dana Gunders, a Staff Scientist at the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) and author of a new book called, Waste-Free Kitchen Handbook, where she shares her knowledge and many tips on ways to reduce ones food waste. Dana’s focus at the NRDC is on Food and Agriculture, especially when it comes to reducing food waste. She is the author of a widely distributed report “Wasted: How America is Losing Up to 40% of Its Food from Farm to Fork to Landfill”. She also recently co-authored a report called, The Dating Game, revealing how confusing food dates lead to food waste in America. Her work on food waste has been featured by CNN, NBC, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR, and many other outlets. Please join me on Thursday, as Dana shares her expertise with us, and helps guide us on ways to reduce our food waste.
