iEat Green is Seeking Volunteers to Help With Their Thanksgiving Feast for the Homeless; Sally Edwards, Co-Founder of the Chemical Footprint Project, Joins Bhavani on the Progressive Radio Network

Hi Everyone,

As many of you know, this will be my 22nd year, organizing a huge Thanksgiving Feast for the Homeless, to be served in Rufus King Park in Queens. Every year, I partner with the River Fund NY, a local food pantry, to prepare and serve a homemade meal to img_0078-1their clients, along with a huge collection of coats and warm winter items to share with those people who do not have enough. To pull this off, I depend on the generosity of my local community, both for donations of food, clothing and money, and for the sweat equity of volunteers and their time. If you want to participate, there are still many shifts open. It is a wonderful opportunity to share the experience with your children and loved ones. Here is a link to sign up. If you want to donate money for our event, you can make a tax free donation to the River Fund, and mark the check “Thanksgiving Feast.” Their address is The River Fund NY, 8911 Lefferts Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11418. If you want to donate food, turkeys or clothing, please either email me at Bhavani@iEatGreen.com or call me at 516-238-3616 to coordinate. Every year, I look forward to the many returning faces, and the new friends I meet.

This week, my guest on the Progressive Radio Network is Sally Edwards, a senior research associate at the Lowell Center for Sustainable Production at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The Lowell Center for Sustainable Production works to develop practical solutions to environmental and health problems and helps to advance edwards-head-shotfundamental changes that lead to a safer and more secure world. Sally is also the co-founder of the Chemical Footprint Project, which is designed to recognize corporate leadership in the use of safer chemicals. Sally facilitates the work of the Green Chemistry and Commerce Council’s Retailer Leadership Council, whose mission is to promote safer chemicals, materials and products across retail supply chains. Her book, Beyond Child’s Play: Sustainable Product Design in the Global Doll-Making Industry, was published in 2009. I’m very excited to have her on, and learn more about the work she is doing to reduce our world from toxic chemicals. Please join me on Thursday, as I welcome Sally Edwards onto my show.
