iEat Green is Cooking Up a Storm! A Call for New Slow Food Board Members! Ignite Fire and Fury! NOFA-NY’s Winter Conference is Coming Up! Micaela Colley, from the Organic Seed Alliance Joins Bhavani on PRN

Hi Everyone,

It is so good to be back after last weeks snow storm. This is the first time in all of my years with the Progressive Radio Network that we had to close due to snow. Anyway, I’m happy to say that Summer Raynes Oates, who was scheduled for last week to talk about her book, SugatDetoxMe, will now be joining me on February 22nd. Stay tuned for that!

During the holiday season, I always back off from doing cooking classes because everyone’s schedule is too busy. Well… the holidays are over and I have 3 classes coming up this week! The first is this Saturday, January 13th, from 11am-2pm. This class is a Winter Vegan and Gluten Free Cooking Class, and is designed with the working person in mind. We will be preparing dishes that can be portioned out and frozen, so that one can easily pull them out from the freezer for an easy mid-week dinner. Then on Monday, MLK Day, I will be sharing some of my favorite recipes in a Cooking Demonstration at the Westbury Library from 7-8:30pm. Lastly, on Friday, January 19th, I will be giving a Cooking Demonstration up at the NOFA-NY Winter Conference (Northeast Organic Farming Association) in Saratoga Springs. I hope you can join me at one of these classes. If not, keep checking back for other classes that I will be adding next month.

Slow Food North Shore is putting out a call for new board members. SFNS is our local chapter of Slow Food USA, a great organization committed to good, clean and fair food, and promoting a food system that is equitable, sustainable, and diverse. If you are interested in learning more about the Slow Food Movement, please check out the websites above, and let me know if you are interested in taking on a leadership role. I have been co-chair of SFNS for the past 8 years, and can tell you it has been a wonderful experience leading the organization and meeting so many amazing people in our community. For more information, please email me at Bhavani@iEatGreen.com

I’m sure you have all heard about the release of the new book, Fire and Fury, and seen some of the ridiculous responses from Trump and some of his cronies (I’m like really smart, a very stable genius.) Well, if you haven’t already joined in a national call to rise and resist this POTUS, hopefully this exposé and the push to open up our waters for off shore drilling, deport our Dreamers, and criminalize the legalization of marijuana, will be the catalyst to inspire the activist in you! Check out my “Take Action” segment of this blog post, to find ways you can get involved, and please clear your calendar and join the 2018 Women’s March,on January 20th and 21st, taking place in over 250 cities around the country!

This week, my guest on the Progressive Radio Network is Micaela Colley, former Executive Director and current Program Director for the Organic Seed Alliance (OSA). The OSA’s research and education programs are focused on organic seed production and organic plant breeding. Micaela is the author of several publications. She frequently teaches and speaks on organic seed topics and collaborates on research projects nationally. Micaela is also pursuing a PhD focused on organic and participatory plant breeding under Dr. Edith Lammerts van Bueren at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. I’m very excited to have Micaela on my show and to learn more about the wonderful work that the Organic Seed Alliance is doing. I hope you can join us!
