iEat Green is Calling All Cooks on Deck for Thanksgiving! Anna Lappe, Author, Activist, and Co-Founder of Small Planet Institute and Real Food Media Joins Bhavani on PRN

Hi Everybody,

My Thanksgiving Feast for the Less Fortunate is around the corner, (Tuesday, Nov 21) and I need volunteers to sign up! Every year, for the past 23 years, I have partnered with the River Fund NY to create a Thanksgiving Feast for our neighbors who don’t have enough to eat, and I can not do it alone. I depend on friends, family, friends of friends, and the greater community, to help me shop, wash, chop, baste, saute, sort clothing, and prepare a traditional Thanksgiving Feast for the hungry. This is an opportunity to come together and give back to those in need. Bring the whole family, bring your friends, and have fun cooking at the iEat Green Homestead! To sign up for a shift, click here:

An integral part of this event is the collection of warm clothing, including coats, hats, gloves, blankets, sweaters, sleeping bags, towels, toiletries, bags, boots, etc. Please start a collection at your school, office, place of worship, or community. Clothes can be dropped off at the iEat Green Homestead anytime before Sunday, Nov. 19th, so we have time to sort them before the big event! For further information, please email me at Bhavani@iEatGreen.com

My guest this week on the Progressive Radio Network is Anna Lappé, co-founder of the Real Food Media, Small Planet Institute and Food MythBusters. Anna promotes health, equity and sustainability in food systems through her writing, advocacy, public speaking, and philanthropy. She has authored or co-authored three books and contributed to twelve others. Her Diet for a Hot Planet: The Climate Crisis at the End of Your Fork and What You Can Do About It (2010) was named by Booklist and Kirkus Reviews as one of the best environmental books of the year. In addition to her writing, Anna appears frequently on television and radio and lectures at colleges and universities. The Small Planet Institute is an international network for research and popular education about the root causes of hunger and poverty, which she co-founded with her mother, Frances Moore Lappe. The Real Food Media is a collaborative initiative for popular education about food, farming, and sustainability, and a source for great short documentaries. The Food MythBusters is an initiative of the Real Food Media Project, aimed to debunk persistent myths about sustainable food and farming, through compelling media, and an online information center. Please join me on Thursday as Anna and I discuss the amazing work she is doing, and how we can all help in our own way!
