iEat Green Interviews Dr. Drew Ramsey and Participating in Local Politics

Hi Everyone,

Last week’s public hearing about the proposed Port Ambrose Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) facility, that is being planned to be built off of the coast of Long Beach, and close to NYC and New Jersey, was an opportunity to see local politics in action. The room was packed, with over 300 concerned citizens, all speaking out against the proposal, along with a few people in favor. The consensus was unanimous! The proposed facility would put Long Beach residents, as well as all residents within a 50 mile radius, in great danger, should there be an explosion or terrorist attack. Many examples of accidents that had occurred at other LNG facilities was shared, as well as the countless deaths that resulted from those accidents. It would also do irrevocable damage to the ocean and wildlife, and contribute to climate change in a negative way. It would be perpetuating the continuation of ?the burning of fossil fuels, rather than developing alternative energy resources, like the off shore wind farm that has been proposed for the same location. I was so glad I was there, along with my friends from Long Beach, Food and Water Watch, the Sierra Club, the Surfers, United for Action, and a host of other groups. It was local politics in action, and hopefully our voices will be heard!

This week, on the Progressive Radio Network, I am very happy to have as my guest, Dr. Drew Ramsey, a clinical psychiatrist who recognizes the connection between one’s mental health and the foods that they eat. His first book, The Happiness Diet,Unknowncame out in 2011, and looks at the typical Modern American Diet (MAD) and how it is not only expanding our waistlines, but it is shrinking our brain! In his second book, 50 Shades of Kale, Dr. Ramsey shares the?health benefits of kale, along with some great recipes, and shows you why you need to include it in your culinary repertoire. Please join me on Thursday, for what promises to be a very exciting interview.
