iEat Green Hosts the Long Island Food Coalition; Coke Funds a New Non Profit; The Divestment Movement Goes Global; and An Interview with Marco Borges, Author of “The 22 Day Revolution”

Hi Everyone,

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of hosting a Farm to Table Luncheon, as part of the LI Food Coalition’s Farm Tour. What Fun! The tour traveled by coach bus to three, Nassau County, North Shore Farms, with a stop at the iEat Green Homestead for lunch. The lunch stop was only supposed to be an hour, but the moment swept us up, and we spent two hours dining and talking in the peaceful ambiance of the garden.

I know I am always encouraging everyone to look at who or what is funding the latest research, and this week, I read about the perfect example. The Global Energy Balance Network is a new organization promoting exercise, as opposed to diet, as a way to address the obesity epidemic and Coca Cola has provided the money to start the organization. They have also provided the research money to the respective 2015-9-Divestment-ph1-WBuniversities and scientists behind this new organization. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see what Coca Cola is trying to do. They are trying to diffuse the bad rap that sugary soda is getting, by suggesting that exercise will keep your weight down, and that what you eat or drink is not to blame for the obesity epidemic. However, the reality is, soda, all soda, whether diet soda or sugary soda is bad for you and has no place in anyone’s diet!

Another great article that I was excited to read about is how the movement to get universities to divest their endowments from fossil fuel companies is taking hold at universities around the world. And the divestment movement is going global! In the past two years alone, more than 200 institutions, including financial organizations, religious organizations, private companies, philanthropy, and even local government have divested from fossil fuels. The Rockefeller Foundation made their announcement of divesting, after last years Climate March, and the Episcopal Church, the Church of England, and the cities of Minneapolis, Seattle, Oxford, and Dunedin have followed suit. Most of us have some affiliation to a university or institution that we can put a little pressure on, and help this movement grow. And don’t forget about your own investments. There are now many options for Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) or “Investing with an Impact”, so make sure to ask your broker how you can align your investments with your belief system. Do it today!

This week, my guest on the Progressive Radio Network is Marco Borges, an exercise physiologist, and author of the new booadmin-ajaxk, The 22 Day Revolution. Marco Borges has been transforming peoples lives through his exercise and nutrition programs, by teaching them how to incorporate exercise and a plant based diet into their daily lives. Join me on Thursday, at 10am, and find out what makes The 22 Day Revolution different from all of the other diets out there!
