iEat Green Embraces Our Life Cycle Events; Listen to My Interview with Nancy Romer, the Founder of the Brooklyn Food Coalition

Hi Everyone,

There is a part of life that I didn’t think much of when I was younger, but now I think of it often, and that is death. I was fortunate to not have experienced the passing of loved ones circle-imageswhen I was young, but as I get older, I am acutely aware of the fact that everyone has to go through that transition, one by one, alone. I am sad and I miss the physical presence of the one who has passed, yet I truly believe their spirit lives on and is with me. I am blessed and grateful for the flow of love that runs through my family and friends, because it is that river of love that holds each of us up, in our time of need. We celebrate life and we celebrate a life well lived, and we come together around the convivial table, to share memories, to laugh, to cry and of course to eat!

And the next day we come together again, this time to celebrate birth, and the beginning of a new life. Both are life cycles, and you can’t have one without the other, so we need to embrace it all, and keep the love flowing. That is the only way.img_0978

This past weekend, I had the honor of providing the food for the Environmental Defense img_0979Fund‘s 50th Anniversary Celebration. Did you know they got their start on Long Island? It’s true, right in Huntington! So it felt very appropriate that they should choose the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Huntington as the venue for the event. You can see some of the food photos on my Facebook page.

Due to a death in my family, I am unable to record my radio show this week, but I have chosen to replay my interview with Nancy Romer for you. Nancy Romer was the Founder of the Brooklyn Food Coalition and Chair of the Board. She is an activist and is committed to food justice both here and abroad. The Brooklyn Food Coalition is a grassroots organization dedicated to the vision of a just and sustainable food system in Brooklyn. The Coalition is fundamentally committed to building an inclusive, multi-racial, multi-cultural alliance of residents and community-based groups from all parts of Brooklyn, reflecting the borough’s rich diversity. It is composed of neighborhood-based groups, working committees, and affiliate groups all working together in Brooklyn on projects that promote food justice and sustainable food. If you missed the interview, you have another chance!nancy-romer_courtesy-of-encore-org_1
