iEat Green Cooks Up Some Food for the Coalition for Healthy School Food’s Gala; Interviews Heather Forest and Larry Foglia, Two of the Founders of the LI Community Agriculture Network and Owners of Fox Hollow Farm

Hi All,

Every year, I like to show my support for The Coalition for Healthy School Food by donating and serving some food for their Gala.  This is a great organization that is influencing the way our kids eat by introducing more plant based foods into the school lunch program and by providing educational programs on healthy eating, both for the students and for the parents. IMG_3575This year I served up a Japanese Stir Fry with Brown Rice Noodles with a Sesame Sauce. Other vendors included Fran Costigan, serving her famous Vegan Chocolates, Candle 79 serving their Seitan Meatballs, DF Mavens delicious Cashew Ice Cream and Jivamuktea Cafe serving up some Red Lentil Dal Soup, just to mention a few. It is definitely the Vegan Tasting event of the year!

This week on the Progressive Radio Network, I am excited to introduce to you two people who have contributed so much to the local farm and food movement on Long Island, Heather Forest and Larry Foglia. Together, they run Fox Hollow Farm CSA, which provides beautiful, organic vegetables to 100 families, and conducts free educational programs on gardening and farming skills. They both were founding members of Long Island Agriculture Network (LICAN) and helped to establish and build Gateway Community Garden in Huntington Station, NY.  Separately, they each have their own careers. heather_photo_10_sm Heather is a storyteller, author, musician and Executive Director of Story Arts Inc., a Huntington based not-for-profit cultural arts organization that is dedicated to the art of storytelling and to its educational applications. Larry is a farmer, natural resource consultant and environmental educator who, for the past 35 years, has worked to nurture, preserve and protect the natural world.   As a Natural Resource Consultant he has been a project manager affiliated with both the Peconic and Nassau Land Trusts working to preserve and protect farms, farming and natural open space on Long Island. I hope you can join us on Thursday!larry_photo_15_sm
