iEat Green Celebrates Christmas with a Feast for the Needy, and this weeks PRN guest, Travis Slagle from Pacific Quest

Hi Everyone,

I am exhausted and invigorated, at the same time! Today we fed nearly 500 people a holiday meal of Baked Ziti, Caesar Salad, Garlic Bread, and a choice of Brownies, Coconut Custard Pie or Apple Pie for dessert. All weekend I kept looking at the weather forecast for Tuesday and it didn’t look like a happy picture, but I kept praying for sun, and
sun we had! The weather was beautiful. The sun came out and it was 65 degrees! It was probably the nicest weather we have ever had! I can’t believe this was my 18th year, working with The River Fund-NY, feeding the needy, in Rufus King Park, Queens. Reflecting back, I have been so blessed with a wonderful and supportive husband, children, and family, as well as a constant revolving door of friends, both old and new, who come out and show their support, by rolling up their sleeves, and helping me prepare all of the food. It is a real team effort, filled with lots of love and community spirit! So even though I am exhausted, I am enlivened and invigorated by all of the love that surrounded me today. I thank you all who helped to make this event another success!

My guest this week on the Progressive Radio Network is Travis Slagle, the Horticultural Therapy Director for Pacific Quest, an outdoor therapy program on the Big Island in Hawaii. I first heard of Travis from a friend who sent their daughter to Pacific Quest. She kept referring to him as the “Garden Guru,” which is the endearing name he has been given by the kids that go there. He is a master gardener, and life coach, and has been working with “at risk teens” for over 10 years in wilderness, residential and horticultural programs. I know he was an inspiration to my friends daughter, and I hope you can join us and hear some of the wonderful success stories he has to share.

My show is every Thursday, at 10am. To listen live, just go to the Progressive Radio Network’s station at prn.fm, and click the “Listen Live” button, or check back at my website on Friday, for a direct link.

In the meantime, I wish you all a peaceful week, as we enjoy the company of friends and family, during this holiday season.

In peace and love,

Bhavani
