iEat Green Brings Back It’s Edible and Medicinal Herb Walk with the Natural Nurse; Yoga Retreat and Farm to Table Cooking Classes; An Interview with Catherine Jones, CEO of Werbie, a Startup Catering to Women’s Health, Nutrition, and Wellness

Hi All,

This past week we had the first meeting of the all new Long Island Food Coalition, a direct response following the LI Food Conference. The LI Food Coalition seeks to build an all inclusive coalition of all the various food and agricultural organizations on Long Island, who are committed to building a sustainable community, and expanding educational opportunities. The goal of the LI Food Coalition is to act as an umbrella organization, so that Long Islanders will be able to go to one website, and find out about all of the wonderful work being done by the various organizations, including any events, classes and activities going on. It will take some time to build this coalition, so please be patient, and if you have any time to volunteer towards this ambitious goal, please reach out to me, and I will pass on your name. We have organized our first event on August 8th, A Long Island Farm Tour and Lunch, where you will board a beautiful coach bus and be taken to 3 local farms, Orkestai Farm in Oyster Bay, Young’s Farm in Glen Head and Three Castles Gardens in Old Westbury with a stop at the iEat Green Homestead for a Farm to Table Lunch. It’s going to be a wonderful event! For more information and to purchase tickets, go to www.facebook.com/LIFoodConference or call 516-626-0908.

This past Sunday we celebrated the beginning of summer with Slow Food North Shore’s Potluck at Restoration Farm. Although the weather was iffy, we still had many people who came out to celebrate in the Slow Food tradition with delicious food, wonderful company, and beautiful music with Josh Epstein and Craig Meyer. Slow Food North Shore is our local chapter of the Slow Food USA, an organization committed to good, clean and fair food, preserving biodiversity, supporting local farms, and bringing people together to enjoy and savor the pleasures of the table. If your not already a member, please consider joining, and supporting our important work!IMG_4253

This evening (Wednesday) at 6pm, iEat Green and Slow Food North Shore will host Ellen Kamhi, The Natural Nurse, for our annual Edible and Medicinal Herb Walk and Potluck, at the iEat Green Homestead. Ellen Kamhi is a wealth of knowledge, and she shares her knowledge with passion and love. An evening not to be missed!  To register, please call me at 516-238-3616, and I will send you the directions. Lastly, I wanted to give you all a heads up, about our Yoga Retreat and Farm to Table Cooking Classes, coming up on July 19th and August yogaretreat16th. I hope you can make it!

This week, my guest on the Progressive Radio Network is Catherine Jones, the co-founder and CEO of Werbie, LLC, a startup catering to women’s health, nutrition and wellness in the digital world. We quickly became friends, and I knew I wanted to invite her on my show, to talk about her work, and her most recent book, Calories In, Calories Out.imagesPlease join us, as we talk about her award winning books, and the work of Werbie, LLC!
