This past Thursday, I interviewed Vinny Simeone, the Director of Horticulture for the Planting Fields Arboretum in Long Island, and author of the new book, Grow More with Less: Sustainable Garden Methods. His book focuses on sustainable planting for the long term, and not just for immediate results. He recommends using native grasses and plants, to create natural landscapes, and to think about diversifying, so that you can have color and interesting shades year round. The book gets into natural ways to deal with pests and insects, using Clove Oil and insecticidal soaps, and how to collect rainwater, reducing one’s dependence on our water system and lowering one’s global footprint.
