iEat Green: An Interview with Robert Musil

This past Thursday, I interviewed Dr. Bob Musil, the CEO and President of the Rachel Carson Council, and a long time environmentalist, about his new book, Rachel Carson and her Sisters. It was fascinating to learn the stories of so many strong, independent women, who were early pioneers in?Screen Shot 2014-08-04 at 6.25.22 PMthe environmental movement, and influenced and inspired the work of Rachel Carson. We think of Rachel Carson as the first person to document the connection between nature and the adverse effects that chemicals can have on the environment, in her book, Silent Spring. but it turns out that there were many women who came before her, who fought for animal welfare and the environment. The book is written with feeling and an appreciation for the spirit of these women, that really touched the warrior in me. The current environmental/food movement is a complicated situation, which is often frustrating and exhausting, but Bob was able to bring hope and optimism to an otherwise relatively depressing topic, and gave us concrete suggestions on things we can do to keep the food movement going in a green direction.
