This morning I had a great interview with Callie Curry, who uses the name “Swoon” for her art work. She is a street artist and activist in her own way, often using environmental disasters as an opportunity for inspiration and community organizing. As a classically trained painter, she took to street art as a way of making her artwork more accessible to the people of New York, and it just took off from there! She has taken her work to Haiti in a response to the earthquake that shook their world, New Orleans in a response to?Hurricane Katrina, and the Brooklyn Museum in a solo show called Submerged Motherlands, in a response to Hurricane Sandy.
