October 12th- Celebrate Food Day with Slow Food East End
October 12, 2014 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm
FREEThe Slow Food East End chapter will participate in a nationwide ?Food Day,? sponsored by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, on Sunday, October 12.
The event is free and open to the public. It will include a potluck supper and a food drive. Guests are asked to donate non-perishable ?superfoods,? which Slow Food East End will distribute to food pantries throughout the East End. The term ?superfoods? refers to edibles rich in especially healthful nutrients. These include antioxidants, healthy fats, fiber and phytochemicals. Examples are dried fruit, oatmeal, almonds, peanut butter, canned tomatoes, dry or canned beans, whole grains, barley and lentils. If possible, dishes and beverages for the potluck supper should also include some superfoods, along with local, seasonal ingredients.
