Registration fee is $50 for individuals from the Appalachian Grown region, $60 for those out of the region.

Farm to school programming connects classrooms, the cafeteria, and the community—helping children develop healthy relationships with food and enriching the overall educational experience for children and adults alike. The movement is growing, nationally and here in Western North Carolina.

With more than 10 years of experience in farm to school training and programming, ASAP’s Growing Minds Farm to School Program offers a combination of creative ideas and practical applications for school environments. Our Farm to School Conference is designed to provide you—school staff and community members—the training and resources you need to implement successful farm to school programs.

This year’s Farm to School Conference will offer multiple workshop sessions geared specifically for teachers, early childhood educators, parents, community health professionals, and child nutrition staff. Join educators from across the southeast to strengthen existing programs and jump start new farm to school efforts in your community!

This year’s conference will feature workshops focused on four specialized tracks: Early Childhood, Health and Community, Cafeteria, and Classroom. Each track features content for folks new to farm to school as well as those that want to improve their existing programs:

Early Childhood

  • Farm to Preschool Models
  • Cooking by the Book
  • Local Food in Meals and Snacks

Health and Community

  • Improving Community Health through Local Food and Farms
  • Community Connections and Partnerships
  • Developing Policies to Sustain Farm to School

Local Food in the Cafeteria

  • How School Food Works
  • Taste Tests, Promotions, and Student Engagement
  • Farm to Institution

Classroom Connections

  • First Steps in Farm to School
  • Children’s Literature Connections
  • Farm to School as a Curricular Theme

The registration fee includes a light breakfast, local food lunch, and conference notebook. Coming from out of town? Click here to see directions to MAHEC’s Education Building, and nearby lodging options.

All attendees will receive certificates of completion for CEU purposes upon request. The conference has been pre-approved as an Early Childhood in-service for continuing education purposes.
