An Interview with Lisa Suriano, Founder and CEO of Veggiecation

Hi Everybody,

I wanted to share with all of you a few exciting things going on, in anticipation of Spring being around the corner. This has been a very long winter, and I can’t wait to be back outside, working in my Screen Shot 2014-03-04 at 6.28.09 PMgarden. The first thing I wanted to share was the official launch of the Long Island Community Gardens website, which will be a great resource for any community wanting to start a “Community Garden.” Having been involved in the start up of Gateway Community Gardens in Huntington Station, I can attest to the transformation a Community Garden can add to a neighborhood, and also to how beneficial it would have been to have had access to a website like this, when we were starting. This website was made possible by the work of the Suffolk County Food Policy Council, with the help of Stony Brook interns and Sustainable Long Island. A big thanks to all those involved!

On another note, I wanted to let you all know about the upcoming CSA Fair, to take place at Farmingdale University on April 12th. If you have not yet signed up to be a part of a Community Supported Agricultural Farm, then you probably want to there! This will be a wonderful opportunity to talk to our local farmers who offer a CSA program, and shop around to find the right farm experience for you. The beauty of joining a CSA is being a part of a community of like minded people, who care about the foods they eat, and who want to source the freshest, local, seasonal produce available, at a fair price. Many CSA’s have different drop off points, or you can go directly to the farm and pick it up there.

My guest this week on the Progressive Radio Network is is Lisa Suriano, the founder and CEO of Veggiecation. The Veggiecation?
